Childhood Easter Traditions Around the World

If you celebrated Easter as a child then you might remember all of the fun family activities leading up to it. Here are just a few favorite/well known Easter traditions around the world.

Confetti Eggs

There are more than the traditional plastic candy filled eggs to find onEaster. There are confetti filled eggs used to crack on other peoples’ heads. This tradition originated in Spain but instead of confetti it was a form of perfumed powder. It was normal for friends to crack the egg over another friend’s head for good fortune.

Easter Egg Hunt

Kids all around on Easter Sunday go out into their yard to look for either hard boiled eggs, confetti eggs, or plastic candy filled eggs and in some cases golden eggs filled with money.

Easter Bunny

The Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700’s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests in which this creature couldlay its colored eggs. Following the christian perspective, the rabbit is considered an ancient symbol of fertility, rebirth and new life, all associated with the springtime celebration of Easter.
