It’s time for the holidays! Christmas is right around the corner and with that, comes New Years. New Years is always a great time for self reflection and looking back on accomplishments you achieved throughout the year. It’s also a good time for looking back at mistakes you made and areas you wish to improve going into 2024. News Years resolutions have a long history that dates back all the way back to over 4,000 years ago! The ancient Babylons are credited with celebrating the first ever new year and recording the first ever New Years Resolution.
In honor of New Years, I wanted to ask Lincoln High students what their resolutions are for 2024. I received a wide variety of responses among several students. Some very common answers were along the lines of getting good grades, and spending time with family. One 12th grader wrote, “All A’s, become more mentally organized, get 200 hours of volunteer service, graduate.” These are some fantastic resolutions and are all realistically achievable. There were a lot of fun and different responses too. A 10th grader answered, “Add to my vinyl collection.” I love resolutions like these because it shows some of the personalities and hobbies that students here at Lincoln have. But by far the most popular response was about students working towards getting their license. Several 10th graders responded with, “Pass my permit test.” and a few 11th graders answered with, “Get my license.”
There were some great and creative responses and it’s always interesting to hear from students of all grade levels just to see what they view as important to work on or what they feel they need to improve among themselves. So with that, I’ll leave you with one question. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
