NEW YORK CITY- The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser and charity event hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City that is traditionally held on the first Monday of May. For celebrity followers and fashion enthusiasts, the Met is considered one of the most exciting nights of the year. It serves as a showcase for designers and brands as attendees dress in elaborate outfits and make statements on the red carpet. The Met Gala invite list has always been extremely exclusive, being Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, has organized the guest list and seating chart since 1995. All 600 exclusive guests have to pay a hefty fee of around $75,000. Notable celebrities with iconic Met looks include Zendaya, Blake Lively, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian–just to name a few. Invitees are expected to interpret the theme (which changes every year,) and dress accordingly, showcasing their style and creativity. As we reflect on this year’s Met, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, with the dress code being Garden of Time, I’ll be giving my personal opinion on the top 3 favorite and best dressed celebs at the Met.
Honorable Mention: Doja Cat in Vetements
I know what you’re thinking and I understand. We’re on a controversial start. Doja Cat’s look was one of the most hated by fans and viewers of the Met, and I completely agreed–at first. I couldn’t understand how this even aligned with the theme and my first thought was she was just trying to be a Bianca Censori copycat, but I believed we all truly underestimated her. In an interview at the Met, Doja explains, “I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most-used flower. And it’s cotton…I felt like it was timeless to choose a white t-shirt.” In my opinion, this type of creativity deserves endless praise, someone that goes above and beyond the surface of interpretation. I also believe that this wasn’t even the best part. In TikTok video posted by Vogue Magazine, it appears Doja to be posted alongside ancient Roman statues, with fans commenting she was dressed as a statue of the garden of time.
- Kendall Jenner in Givenchy
I hope I win you all back here. As much as I like to be different and give every celebrity a fair chance, it’s a no brainer Kendall was one of the best dressed of the night. Being an archive from Givenchy 1999, Kendall was the first person to wear it in 25 years; such a special moment. It’s even more special that because it’s an archive, tailoring was strictly prohibited. When she tried on the dress, she said, “fits me like a glove.” Definitely is a super detailed dress, consisting of over 100,000 beads and sequins, and over 500 hours of hand-embroidery. She truly is a sleeping beauty.

I guess you could say this look was a total touchdown! I know, with all the incredible looks from that night, you’re probably surprised why he is here, especially a man. Being a total sucker for detail and simplicity, Beckham really scored in my books. The beautiful flower and bird embroidery took the cake, with a stunning diamond broach being the cherry on top.
- Taylor Russel in Loewe and Fred Leighton
Canadian actress Taylor Russel made her debut on the Met Red Carpet this year, and it was nothing short of jaw dropping. Her custom bodice cast and skirt designed by Loewe, having the bodice being wood-painted with flowers and twigs painted along her neckline and waist, and an ivory skirt to pair. This may be a basic look for some, but to me this was everything. She took a botanical twist on the theme and gave an abundance of elegance and simplicity.
