It is towards the end of the year and we are all one step closer to a beautiful summer. Although many things are dying down at the end of the year such as sports, events, and assignments, there is still a significant amount of things to do during summer besides school. When school is in session, it tends to take up 90% of every student’s time; however once summer hits this isn’t usually the case. When summer first hits, there’s all this excitement–for good reasons of course–but the excitement doesn’t always last until July. Some may find it hard to discover fun activities to do during the summer that doesn’t involve staying home and playing video games. But, this isn’t impossible and there are so many fun things to do come summer.
For example, summer is the time to go out and have fun with friends or even just by yourself. One way to do this is to get a job which has many benefits whether it pays or not. For a paying job, one of the main benefits is that you are getting paid. There are many places that will hire high schoolers and if you are too young, then you can always get a work permit from the College and Career Center located in the school library. Having a job can allow for many connections or new friends socially. Another way to keep busy would be to volunteer, which is almost the same as having a job except you don’t get paid. There are still benefits from volunteering because you can try to accumulate 100 hours by the end of the school year and turn your hours to the College and Career Center. This may not seem like a big deal;however, it will look good on college applications and you will get a rope to wear at graduation. Plus, it is another way to kill time while hanging out with friends.
Furthermore, having a job or volunteering may not seem that fun to most. Therefore, another activity can be going to the pool which is always nice and refreshing on a hot day. It’s also a good way to tan if that is one of your summer goals. Even if you don’t have a pool in your backyard, there are many that are open to the public. Besides the pool on a hot day, mini golf otherwise known as putt putt golf is never a bad idea. There is no golfing experience required which is one of the reasons why it is so fun, especially with a group of friends. One never knows where the ball will go, maybe over the fence just hopefully not through a window. Another idea is going to a bowling alley such as Pacific Bowl Avenue here in Stockton or Lodi Bowling Lounge & Bar in Lodi. Bowling is typically a fun activity that can be very competitive however it is also a very chilling way to spend your day. Lastly, going out and experiencing different towns or places can be a fun new experience, such as going to festivals where one can experience many different cultures or see many different items that aren’t typically offered. Also, you can go to the beach for a one or three day trip. There are many beaches in California that are fun and very available to the public. .
Summer is a time to go places, to catch up with friends and family, and to have fun after working hard all school year. Staying at home, watching TV or playing video games, is fun for awhile; however it can get boring fast. Therefore, finding activities to do such as getting a job, going to the pool, going mini golfing, going to the beach, or traveling can help solve some of the boredom summer entails. While most of these activities are fun, some can also pay off for next school year because the school year will be here before you know it. But, definitely have fun and relax because that’s what summer is all about. Have a great relaxing and fun summer Trojans!
