Every year Lincoln high school has their Homecoming in the month of October. During homecoming many activities take place including performances. These performances include class skits, clubs, homecoming court skits, cheer, dance team, and the staff skit. All clubs must participate in some way but not all clubs perform in the rallies. Homecoming has two rallies, one during the night and one during the day. This year there were 9 clubs that performed in our rallies this year but overall there were 49 clubs participating in the carnival.
Polynesian Club was a part of the clubs that performed for the homecoming rallies. Their performance featured a Samoan and Ori dance. Polynesian club is notorious for attracting a large audience and always is a fan favorite from the students and staff here at Lincoln. While Polynesian Club is known for their Ori dances, they strive to also show representation of islands other than Tahiti. They continue to highlight what they are known for while also displaying other cultures from the islands such as in this case Samoa. They perform at most of the school events that allow them too and continue to wow and amaze the students here on campus.
MECHA club is another enormous club on campus that always has a large audience. MECHA always brings excitement and entertainment to the school, and also performs for most school events making them another fan favorite. Their ability to not only move in a synchronized manner but also keep up with their face paced music is most impressive. This year they performed a Tribal dance for Homecoming. MECHA in fact has been one of the longest running clubs here at Lincoln so it’s safe to say that tying with Polynesian club, it may be the most popular and loved club here at Lincoln.
Korean Club, also known as K-Club is a majorly popular club here on campus as well. Korean club perform dances that are popular within the K-Pop genre and actually post these dances online for others to view whenever they would like. This year they performed the songs Dududu, Fatal Trouble, Armageddon, and Touch. Their club has varied in size over the years but one thing that has stayed consistent is the support they gain. Even people who don’t know the songs or even like K-Pop music as a whole will enjoy their performances.
STOMP, another long lasting club here at Lincoln performed to the songs Wipe Me Down, Sideways, It Won’t Stop, and Hot Boys – I Need a Hot Girl. They are well loved and known here at Lincoln even though they have only been around since 2022 along with being an HBCU inspired club. STOMP is a very popular club here at Lincoln, many people love to watch them perform and they consistently have many members within their club. Most recognizable by their shirts that all club members wear featuring their signature ‘S’. Their ability to get positive reactions from the crowd and always bring the wow factor is certainly amazing.
Soul Steppers is one of our newer clubs here at Lincoln as well and was created in 2022 by Kobe Davis who is still currently the President but will be graduating in 2025 with our current seniors. They may be new but they are compelling. Quickly gaining more members as time goes on, it is definitely one of our fastest growing clubs here on campus. This year at homecoming they performed dances in the R&B and Soul music genre. As the year goes on they will continue to perform for many Lincoln events and keep people anticipated for what they will do next.
Vietnamese Club is another new club here on campus starting in 2023 by An Ho who is also a part of the graduating class of 2025. An Ho is also in K-Club, making many of the Vietnamese Club members also a part of K-Club or were in that club previously. They display graceful but fun dances called a fan and hat dance. While their dances may not be as face paced as our other clubs here on campus, this does not make them any less special. The Vietnamese club is enjoyed by many as their dances are beautiful and show much skill and dedication to representing the culture.
Lincoln Latin Leadership is another Hispanic representing club. Unlike MECHA club which is specifically representing Chicano culture, Lincoln Latin Leadership is purely representing the Latin community as a whole. They performed a total of 7 dances during Homecoming featuring a Tribal, Bachata, Salsa, Cumbia, Wepa, Sonora, and Satevo dance. Their club has been gaining more attention over the past two years as more people have been joining. They have their ambitions set on performing whenever they can and to look great while doing it.
Folklórico, a Mexican dance oriented club that strictly focuses on Folklórico dancing which is a traditional type of dance. This type of dancing is most recognizable by their Jalisco’s, which is their dress that they wear when dancing. Their movements are incredibly synchronized and beautiful to watch and see grow over these past years. The club was founded by the current president of the club Tommy Cahoon, who created the club in 2023. Their enchanting movements followed by the skillful use of their dress allows for a wonderful performance and is enjoyed by many here at Lincoln.
Finally, the Cambodian club was also one of our clubs that participated in the Homecoming rallies. While their club may be small, it is still entertaining and fun to watch as they performed a bamboo dance. The Cambodian club was founded in 2023 by Vonnie Svannika and Kassidy Touch who are still the current co-presidents this school year. Hopefully as the year continues we will see an increase in not only members but also an increase in performances done by the club as many people would love to see more of their club and culture represented.
All our clubs here at Lincoln participated in some way for Homecoming, but our performing clubs put in so much effort to make sure they looked as wonderful as they did. However some students complain that the rally is too long or the performances seem repetitive but while not every club choreographs new material for each performance, the overwhelming positive response by the students of Lincoln shows that the majority of the people here at Lincoln still have a great time regardless. As the year progresses, more events show up where our clubs will perform once more and if you didn’t get to see all the clubs this year or missed one you wanted to see, I recommend you go to the night rally next time where all the clubs and skits are performed!
