At Lincoln High, students are always looking for ways to get involved, and one of the coolest clubs on campus is the Stockton Scholars. This club is all about making a difference in the community while helping students grow and connect with each other. With a focus on volunteer work and educational opportunities, Stockton Scholars is quickly becoming a go-to spot for students who want to make an impact on their community and to hear those extra volunteer hours.
Meet the Leaders
Brenden Davis, the club President, is super passionate about what they’re doing. He says, “as a club president, I plan the meetings and create the slideshows for the meetings. I also help find volunteer opportunities for the club and make sure the officers are all on task.” Stockton Scholars is a new club that just debuted this year, which will be filled with more outreach opportunities as the year progresses and the club continues to grow. Stockton Scholars provides a multitude of activities to promote better well being, support the community and to give to those in need. Earlier this year they did their Thanksgiving Care Package drive where they donated to anyone in need and people could make donations to the cause and earn an hour of community service doing so.
Alisson Morado, the Vice President, is right there with him, making sure everything runs smoothly. “I help the president and overlook the information being presented” she explains. Alisson believes that joining the club is a great way for students to connect with each other and explore potential career paths. She adds that “people should join [their] club because they will be able to make more connections between younger students and older students.” There is often a disconnect between the grades at Lincoln, of course elective classes and occasionally core classes can have a mix of people from different grades however in a class environment you don’t always interact with everyone. So extracurricular activities, such as clubs, are a good way to meet new people and create new relationships. This also creates a more welcoming environment around Lincoln to have connections between all kinds of different people.
Alexis Ding, the club’s Secretary, keeps everything organized such as “keeping track of meeting minutes and what [they] talk about in [their] meetings” she says. Her role is crucial for making sure everyone is on the same page and knows what’s going on. Leadership is incredibly important when it comes to being an officer in a club because everyone else looks to you for information and how to complete certain tasks. All of the officers work incredibly hard and to help each other and the other members to work efficiently. Being in charge of a club is hard in itself but starting up a club and gaining traction can be even harder so it’s important to recognize the hard work of the officers in this club. Even though Treasurer Bella Rico and Publicity Officer Jatziry Bautista couldn’t be interviewed, their roles are just as important in supporting the club.
All about Stockton Scholars
The meetings for Stockton Scholars are where the real action happens. They brainstorm ideas for volunteer projects and discuss how they can support local schools and shelters. Alisson mentions their focus on helping low-income communities, which is a big part of their mission. So, why should you consider joining Stockton Scholars? For starters, it’s a good way to get involved in the community and gain some hands-on experience. Club President Brenden Davis points out that it’s especially beneficial for anyone thinking about a career in education. “It’s a great way to get hands-on experience working with children,” he explains since they work with other schools and kids often. An example being their volunteer opportunity coming up, to tutoring at TCK, where students can help kids after school. Alexis also highlights the chance to earn volunteer hours while doing something meaningful. “I think it is very conscientious to help people who are in unfortunate circumstances,” she says, explaining the club’s commitment to making a difference.
Stockton Scholars is shaping up to be an awesome club for students at Lincoln High. With dedicated leaders like Brenden, Alisson, Alexis, Bella and Jatziry, the club is set to make a real impact in the community. If you’re looking for a way to connect with others and give back, Stockton Scholars is definitely worth checking out.
