Pygmy Hippos aren’t new to the media. Some may remember the very famous, Moo Deng, and her rise to fame back in September of 2024. She’s located in Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Si Racha, Chonburi, Thailand, and was even Parodied in a SNL skit. 

Who is she? 

Poppy was born to her two parents Iris and Corwin on December 9, 2024. She is a Pygmy Hippo, which is important because her species is endangered. She is loved for her adorable face and her motivations in life. She strives to raise awareness to her species. As well as bring attention to their endangerment by stealing the hearts of the entire internet!

This Leaves us with the question, where is this new found obsession with Pygmy Hippos sprouting from? Is it pure adoration, or empathy for the endangered species?
