Stockton- Ikea is giving people a chance to work at its new virtual store, and you can do it all from home.
The Swedish furniture company just announced that it’s launching a virtual store in Roblox called “The Co-Worker Game.” This game will let players experience what it’s like to work in Ikea’s online world, and it will be available starting June 24. Ikea is looking for 10 people to act as employees in this virtual store. These workers will be paid $16.80 USD an hour, the same rate that real Ikea workers in London earn. The paid employees will get to use their skills, help customers, and even have opportunities for promotions, just like in a real job.
Workers in the game can even serve up virtual versions of Ikea’s famous Swedish meatballs or redesign Ikea showrooms. Applications for the virtual job started on June 3 and will be closed on June 16. Virtual interviews will be held remotely from June 14 to June 18. To apply, candidates need to be over 18 years old and live in the UK or Ireland. Current employees at physical Ikea stores cannot apply for this position.
Roblox is a super popular online gaming platform that lets you “play, create, and be anything you can imagine,” according to its description on the Microsoft Store. Players can customize their characters and play different minigames within the platform. Roblox is free to download on many devices, including smartphones (Android and iOS), Xbox consoles, and Windows computers.
However, players can spend money on in-game items and customizations if they want. According to Techcrunch, the millions of users on Roblox are mostly between the ages of eight and 18, with the main age group being nine to 15 years old. In December 2023, Ikea announced plans to raise wages for its staff in the UK as part of an investment of over 35 million in higher pay and bonuses. This year, hourly-paid employees at Ikea received a 10 percent pay raise, increasing the hourly wage for staff in London from $12 to $13.15.
