Stockton- If you don’t already know him, Logan Sovenic is someone who has largely impacted Lincoln High School as a whole. As one of Lincoln’s Lacrosse captains and a leader of the club FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Logan has truly impacted Lincoln in a positive manner. While Logan’s academics and extracurricular activities could continuously be boasted about, it is Logan’s future that really speaks volumes about his character.
This fall, Logan will be attending Grand Canyon University in Arizona to pursue a major in Theology- the study of God and religious beliefs. Logan’s father is a pastor at Quail Lakes Baptist as well as one of the “key motivators” as Logan stated, which is why he wanted to pursue this as his passion.
FCA provides a safe place for students to express their religious freedom on campus and feel closely bonded with others around them who express the same religious beliefs. Aside from the many events held by them, FCA is fully open to all and with the amazing community held within its foundation, many beneficial relationships will be made.
When I was granted the opportunity to interview Logan and ask him not only specific details and questions about his future and how that’ll impact the world, he gave me insight.
Collette: “With entering into GCU pursuing theology as your major, who at Lincoln inspired you and what opportunities brought you to your decision?”
Sovenic: “One teacher that has been a part of most of my life is Senorita Buhr. She was my prior youth pastor at Quail Lakes Baptist Church and is the representative here at Lincoln for FCA. Her radiant energy reflects off of every person in the room with her and that’s how I aspire to be with others I come in contact with. Some opportunities that brought me to my decision have to be how large FCA has grown over these previous years and that’s largely to do with the leadership that we have in FCA. Seeing students happy to spread the word of God and be united while doing it genuinely is the main reason why I want to pursue this as my life goal.”
Others close to Logan are a true testament to his character and can provide insight as to why he stands out. Logan’s current youth pastor Nick Relloque from Quail Lakes Baptist has known him since Logan was young and when asked if he wanted to give his input, he was very eager.
Collette: “With your time knowing Logan, what led you to believing in Logan and his aspirations?”
Relloque: “Logan has always had a smile on his face and brought it to others no matter any of the circumstances. He always asked questions and wondered what more he could learn and preached that he wanted to serve God ever since he was young.”
Gabe Arreguin, one of Logan’s closest friends since they were young, had a similar response when asked the same question.
Arreguin: “Me and Logan have always been close and knowing that you have a close friend who just radiates positivity and God is the exact person that you want to have around in every moment. I just knew with how invested Logan was regarding God and the church that his future would end up helping a lot of people.”
With Logan shortly attending GCU and preparing to make his mark on the world, he is making the most of his remaining time at Lincoln. The last and final FCA huddle is set for May 15th where gratitude will be given to not only Logan but all the leaders running the club. Come show your support and appreciation!
