Stockton- Diplomas were no match for dunks last week as the LHS staff outplayed the students leaving them up 2-0 in the series.
The annual Students vs. Staff games packed the gymnasium with curiosity and excitement these past two weeks during lunch. The staff really set a commanding tone, beating both underclassmen (26-25) and juniors (28-22).
Mr. Romer was a key player and force on the court. Establishing a heavy presence as a playmaker on offense and a glove on defense. Despite his efforts, both teams struggled as it was hard to come across points, the majority coming from fast breaks or second chance points.
The juniors game, however, had the crowd roaring. The last two minutes were tense, with back to back baskets. Junior Jacob Mameral hit a clutch three tying the game 22-22. That bucket seemed to ignite the staff to book it and secure a two possessions lead. Mr. Brown had the juniors distraught as his fade away and offensive rebounding led them over the hill. Ending the game in a win for the staff and bragging rights, which they made sure to rub in, exclaiming, “TWO ZERO, two zero.”
The students’ left the fans dissatisfied. Senior Dylan Richard expressed disappointment, “I feel pretty let down, the past 4 years the students dominated and would win every series. Now we’re down two zip. Hopefully the seniors can make up for it next week and show how it’s supposed to be.” This leaves the question. Will the seniors answer and regain the throne? Find out this Friday November 21st at the main gym. Tip-off is during lunch. Don’t miss the action and come show support for our seniors.
