Stockton- Every year on November 11, people across America take time to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans Day is a special time to show appreciation for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping our country safe.
The holiday began as Armistice Day in 1919, marking the end of World War I. The fighting stopped on November 11, 1918 the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. After World War II and the Korean War, the name was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans, not just those from World War I.
Today, people celebrate Veterans Day in many ways. Some towns have parades or ceremonies, while schools hold assemblies or moments of silence. In Washington, D.C., the President lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to show respect for all who served.
Even small gestures like saying “thank you” to a veteran or writing a thank-you card can mean a lot. Veterans Day reminds us that our freedom is protected by real people who are willing to risk everything for others. It’s a day to remember, appreciate, and honor the heroes who’ve worn the uniform.
Here’s one of our veterans on campus, Mr. Rivera, he was a part of the US army 1991-2000 as a military journalist. There are many more veterans on campus and we would like to give them a big thanks! We really appreciate your service and everything you’ve done for our country.
