Christmas is a religious holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Over time Americans have adapted this concept. Now, more popularly, the holiday is a time to spend with family and exchange gifts to one another. One big entity that is widely known for this holiday is the man, the myth, and legend: Santa Claus. According to History.com, he came into existence around 280 A.D. He spread holiday cheer to kids in his town with presents.
Santa has had many names and looks over the years but the one that stuck is him in an all red wool outfit with a fat build. Powered by children’s happiness and belief in him, he flies across the world to deliver presents and Christmas cheer to all. He resides in the North Pole with his wife Mrs. Claus, hundreds of worker elves that put together all the presents in factories and his reindeer that pull his sled. Natalia Stanley, a senior here at Lincoln stated from a young age she has believed in the “magic of Santa” and that the elves go into hibernation during the off season. As time has gone on, society has developed and the population has grown. Santa has a way bigger workload than ever before. Theories on how Santa is able to check what you want for Christmas are still unknown. Some say all the elves on the shelf spy on you to see what you want, others send him letters in the North Pole to tell him what you want. Sienna Thompson, another senior here at Lincoln expresses that she loves Christmas dearly, as it is a time she spends with her family. “The atmosphere and feeling of jolliness” makes her feel whole and happy during this time. She also believes that Santa shrinks his body to be able to fit down chimneys or under doorways of houses.
No one really knows how Santa does it but in the end he has been here for centuries and is not going anywhere. He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake. Happy Holidays!
