Stockton- As another school year wraps up, I sat down with Titus Williams to reflect on his high school journey and look ahead at what’s next. Titus is planning to attend UNLV in Nevada. He has very high goals; he intends to major in education to become a teacher, and eventually, a school principal. He is most excited about being independent in this next phase of his life, especially being able to do what he wants without any restrictions.
Looking back, his senior year was filled with big decisions. Titus admitted that his toughest choice was deciding not to take a fourth year of math just to keep a 5-class schedule. “It was a tough call because I will most likely forget how to do math in college,” he shared.
When asked about his favorite high school memory, Titus mentioned attending his very first football game of his freshman year. He recalls it as a moment of innocence and nostalgia, just a freshman enjoying the high school experience.
Titus was also impacted by a staff member who cared for him, Mr. Bolding. He describes Mr. Bolding as relatable, supportive, and funny. Titus has enjoyed working with him while serving as a TA.
Aside from navigating high school, Titus is incredibly proud of this one accomplishment: “Getting my license on the first try is my biggest accomplishment,” he said. “I went through hell and back to get that permit.”
Looking ahead to his career in education, Titus hopes to be a positive role model as an administrator, specifically highlighting “This country needs more people of color in the education world.”
Finally, Titus offered some advice for incoming seniors. “Enjoy every single moment of your last year and cherish all the moments.” He also added a personal lesson, “Do not wait until the last minute to apply for college like I did!” With graduation coming up, Titus is ready for independence with a plan to take on the world of education.
