Stockton- Every year Lincoln High Schools Clubs put together an entertaining and extremely delicious night of supporting countries throughout the world and how they are represented at Lincoln High School. This year, International will be on Friday March 28th at Lincoln High School by “The Oaks” from 6-8pm. If you are interested in attending International Night, make sure to keep reading and hear all about what will be happening at the event and learn more about some of Lincoln’s most popular cultural clubs!
Lincoln High Schools International Night celebrates the diversity of cultures and showcases different classical foods of countries all over the world. The night recognizes the different cultural communities of Lincoln High School and is filled with decorated booths for numerous countries and a large number of clubs performing traditional dances from their respective countries. To speak about the experience with International Night and what their clubs are planning to do for the upcoming festivities are Italian Club Co-President Hollis Langham and Poly Club Vice President Liyah Moncevais.
The first question the club officers were asked was: Do you enjoy participating in International Night?
Moncevais: Yes I enjoy participating in International Night because it is a chance to display our culture to each other and our parents. The event after school gives every club a chance to show off many dances or performances that show off their club for a longer period of time rather than a 5 minute performance we are usually constricted to during the day rallies. Going back to what I said prior, it also gives the students performing a chance to show their parents their hard work they have put into performing.
Langham: Yes I enjoy participating in international night because it is an opportunity for my club to share our country’s culture with a larger audience
Secondly, these two students were asked the question: Do you think it is important for our school to host international nights so that there is representation of different cultures on campus?
Moncevais: I think it’s important to have an International Night because Stockton has a very diverse community of many different cultures and students of those cultures should be able to represent who they are and allow others to feel seen.
Langham: I think it’s important for our school to host international nights so that there is a representation of different cultures on campus because it helps to make multicultural students feel empowered on campus and keeps the cultures alive.
Lastly, to wrap up the interviews, the officers were asked if they would give a preview into what we can expect from their clubs on International Night. The question asked was: What is your club going to be selling? Is your club performing?
Moncevais: My club will be selling Pork Buns, Spam Musubi and Dr. Pepper and Polynesian Club will have several performances throughout the night!
Langham: Italian club will be selling bread sticks and San Pellegrino drinks, but will not be performing.
Along with the Italian and Polynesian Club, foods and drinks such as Lumpia, Kebabs, Tres Leches, and Agua Frescas will be sold, and countries like Mexico, Denmark, Brazil, and Nicaragua will be represented by different clubs at Lincoln. Students at Lincoln will also get to watch several of the clubs that are performing the day before at the double third assembly which is put together by our hard working Leadership class. If you are looking for a fun event that supports Lincoln High Schools clubs and the diverse community that thrives at Lincoln High Schools campus, then make sure to check out this spectacular event on March 28th at night and be ready to try lots of delicious foods and watch some exciting performances!
